Baby Sister!!!

We are expecting a baby girl on January 1, 2009! It's hard to believe we're already half way there- the summer has gone by so fast and then school will start, MEA, Christmas, and then baby. We had our ultrasound on 8/8/08 and everything looked great.

May and June were probably the most physically demanding months of my life- I don't think I've ever been so exhausted and nauseous. I'll spare you the details but the morning sickness is a lot better- I'm hoping it'll eventually be gone, but I am able to brush my teeth! It was great having Tommy home more- in the very least to change poopy diapers for me! I owe him an anniversary dinner for how great he's been (we attempted soup at Eddington's and it was a no go- seriously soup?)

Kathryn has also been a super trooper- she'd often bring me my bucket when I wasn't feeling well, or she'd curl up with a book and a blanket and entertain herself for awhile, and she was very flexible with her nap times. Sometimes I just need to sleep and she was willing to change up her schedule to nap then as well. That and we've been very generous with her pacifier! I don't think she ate a vegetable for like 6 weeks and mac and cheese is again a special treat not a staple!

Of course Carter doesn't like anyone sick so she'd wait outside the bathroom or snuggle up with me on the couch. I have a very nice family!!! And I'm very glad that is all over!

I'm once again using the midwifes. I love them!!! But this time I'm part of a newer program to Minnesota called Centering Pregnancy.

This is how their website describes the program:

The CenteringPregnancy® Program alters routine prenatal care by bringing women out of exam rooms and into groups for their care. Women have their initial intake into their obstetric care in the usual manner with history and physical examination occurring within the office/clinic space. Then they are invited to join with 8-12 other women/couples/teens with similar due dates in meeting together regularly during their pregnancy. The groups form between 12 and 16 weeks of pregnancy and continue through the early postpartum period meeting every month for the first four months and then bi-weekly.

As women come to the group they engage in the self-care activities of weight and blood pressure, estimation of gestation age and recording on their chart.

With a practitioner, they listen to their baby's heart beat, check for uterine growth, and talk individually about specific problems and concerns. They complete self-assessment sheets that serve as a stimulus for the subsequent group discussions.

Together with other group members they share in discussing topics of interest related to pregnancy, childbirth, parenting, and personal growth.

So far I have loved it- I wish there'd been something like this with Kathryn, but it's exciting to be one of the experts in the group! It's awesome to meet with these women and their partners, just being very active in my own care, and learning so much more then "what to expect" will ever tell you! I've only had 2 meetings and unfortunately Tommy has not been able to attend yet- but we plan to find a baby sitter in the future so he can be there.

I'd also like to recommend the movie The Business of Being Born. I won't be having a home birth (at least not intentionally!) but the movie is very informative about midwives, hospital care, cesarean- sections, etc. I know both Blockbuster online and Netflix has it. Maybe even libraries? Anyway see it!!!!

Don't you just love how I get so passionate about child birth when I'm pregnant?!?! I think that's about it on the pregnancy front- we can't wait to meet baby sister!!!!

Congrats! And hey, let me know if you need a babysitter sometime, I'd be happy to help out if it falls on a night that I don't have a scheduling conflict.
