Today Kathryn is 22 months! It's so hard to believe. Time is seriously passing so fast. Kathryn continues to be her funny self- she's a total ham and loves to laugh and make others happy. For the last couple of months she's been obsessed with Eye Spy type books- specifically the one's with Seymour. I think we've checked out every Seymour book in the county- she now makes a funny sound when she points Seymour out- kind of a in-your-face-Seymour sound.
She loves taking care of her babies- wrapping them in blankets and then bouncing and shushing them to sleep. I've been watching a 5 month old for a couple of months and Kathryn is crazy about her. She loves to talk about the baby and help me out. I'm not trying to make her a mama's helper, but I think that is really her personality. Actually a lot like Tommy- wanting to problem solve and help everyone out. Of course like any parents we're concerned about her transition to siblinghood- for the most part I'm not worried as she's used to sharing me.
Kathryn is definitely becoming more independent in her decision making- AKA no, no, no. There's even been a couple of instances where she's made her body go limp or arch her back. We can usually prevent this by giving her ample warning of our plans and not letting her get tired. So far not too big of a deal and I know it could be worse.
Her language is coming along- she understands everything we say to her, but she doesn't use a lot of words herself. Or when she does Tommy and I have to translate what she's saying because we can understand her. She isn't getting frustrated at all with her communication so that's good. We probably won't teach the next kid the b-words--- book and banana. We've been working a lot on colors and shapes.
Kathryn has a couple of jobs around the house-- putting away her coat, hat, shoes at the front door, helping put laundry down the chute, and helping collect and return her diaper changing items. She loves being apart of the action in the kitchen- adding and stirring ingredients and taste testing. We're in the very early stages of potty training- Kathryn lets us know when she wants to be changed and then will sit and read on her little potty. She hasn't had a true success but she's on her way.
So that's some of Kathryn at 22 months!!! One more cute funny thing of late is fake sleeping-- she thinks it's so funny! It really is so funny!! Her eyes are squeezed shut and she has the biggest smile. I can't believe she's almost 2.

While you don't plan to teach her the b-words, she'll get them. She will be watching everything her big sister does and then mimicing her.
